The holiday has its origins in the labour movement and the fight for better working conditions, fair wages, and an eight-hour workday. Today, May Day is celebrated with parades, rallies, and demonstrations in support of workers' rights and social justice issues.

World Malaria Day is observed on April 25th every year to raise awareness about malaria and promote efforts to control and prevent the spread of the disease.
Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites spread by infected mosquitoes. Symptoms include fever, headache, and flu-like illness. Prevention is key, with insecticide-treated mosquito nets and elimination of standing water. Treatment involves antimalarial drugs and prompt diagnosis. The WHO aims to reduce malaria cases and deaths by 90% by 2030. Support organizations, spread awareness, and take precautions to protect against mosquito bites.

The rainy season has been here and despite its benefits, it is also when we are most at risk for colds and flus.
To stay safe,it is important to ensure proper handwashing and hygiene to stop the spread of germs. Keeping warm and eating healthy foods is also essential in warding off colds.
Stay mobile through even a little exercise to enable your body generate some extra heat to keep you warm.
Practice etiquette and cover up with a handkerchief or disposable tissues when coughing or sneezing. If you suspect you are already sick, seek medical advice and remember to mask up to prevent spreading infection to those around you.
Let us all endeavour to stay healthy and keep those around us safe as well.

Our country Kenya is going through a food shortage

Our country Kenya is going through a food shortage and the little food available is becoming too costly. In extreme cases,communities are diminishing from starvation.
We can improvise by getting ways to grow basic foods in small spaces such as vegetables. Through utilisation of pots,bottles and even vertical spaces,we can be able to generate some food from our yards and homes to sustain our families as we work towards attaining Global SDG 2; to end hunger.

Since 2017, Heroes for change has been committed to delivering social impact programmes within our communities for the improvement of livelihoods.
We target the most vulnerable in our societies, such as women and of course ,our future, the children.
With heroes spread countrywide, we have come a long way. Saving our communities and changing lives through our handwashing program with lifebuoy, oral hygiene campaign with Pepsodent, providing employment to the youth among others.
There is still much to do as our communities still need youth who are passionate about change to harness their power and move our society forward and upwards.

This day aims to break barriers and create a more inclusive society without the stigma, discrimination, and exclusion that autistics and their families go through.

World Bipolar Day is observed on March 30th every year to raise awareness about bipolar disorder and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness.

It is characterized by episodes of extreme highs (mania or hypomania) and extreme lows (depression).Bipolar disorder can be managed with medication, therapy, and lifestyle changes, but there is no cure for the condition.It's important for people with bipolar disorder to have a support system and to seek help if they experience symptoms. With proper treatment and support, many people with bipolar disorder are able to manage their symptoms and live full, satisfying lives.
We advocate for better mental health facilities today to ensure better diagnosis and proper support given to anyone who is not okay.

Handwashing before handling food remains the most effective way to prevent food borne illnesses eg cholera
To ensure proper food hygiene;
Raw meat and poultry should be kept separate from other food to prevent cross contamination
The 5 second rule is a myth. The instant food hits the floor,it is already contaminated
Kitchens and places where food is handled should be cleaned thoroughly and regularly
Leftovers should be refrigerated if possible and consumed within 4 days

Heroes for change partnered with Lifebuoy for the school of five program to teach children the importance of regular handwashing. This is to help reduce and ultimately stop the 780,000 deaths of children in Sub saharanpur Africa over preventable diseases like typhoid.

Youth are the future and that's why it is paramount that we acknowledge the #internationaladolescenthealthweek2023 It aims to raise awareness about the health issues faced by adolescents all over the world and promote healthy habits and behaviors.
The theme for IAHW 2023 is "Building a Better Future for Adolescents". This theme highlights the importance of investing in the health and well-being of young people to ensure a brighter future for all.

Today we appreciate the importance of a healthy smile 😃. We believe in inculcating good hygiene practises from the beginning to ensure prevention of oral problems before they even start. We partnered with Pepsodent to further educate our communities on the importance of oral health. We urge everyone to do the most in taking care of their oral health and get checked by a dentist annually.
